Steve Hynes (drums)

Steve was born and raised in Essex. He had wanted to play drums for as long as he could remember and was delighted when a 6th former in a local band gave him lessons. Steve made quick progress and continued to have lessons with a variety of teachers progressing through grades and the like at a rapid rate. His initial love was Rock, but he was introduced to the world of jazz by his dad who played him a Buddy Rich cassette tape when he was very young.

Steve has a passion for all styles of music and would play in as many performing situations as possible. It was going to study with renown teacher Bob Armstrong that really moulded Steve's drumming career and gave him some incredibly inspirational moments, that gave Steve the desire to continually try to better himself. Heavily influenced by modern legends like Vinnie Colaiuta, Dave Weckl, Steve Smith, Peter Erskine and Will Kennedy, Steve made it his aim to practise material that could enable him to play some of the ideas of his Heroes.

Through further study Steve was inspired to look further back to the drummers that inspired his heroes. He discovered Tony Williams, Elvin Jones, Max Roach, Art Blakey, Philly Joe Jones and the like and from then on was totally hooked in the world of Jazz. Steve's playing credits are wide and vast, he is comfortable in any musical situation that requires a drum kit! Artists and Bands he has worked with include Pete King, Mark Nightingale, Steve Waterman, Alan Barnes, Don Airey, The Nolans, Toyah Wilcox, 78 RPM Big Band and The Eddie Seales Big Band to name but a few.
